Drink mostly water as that is the beverage you need, and it will keep you clear and youthful and bring a glow to your hair.
People are always taking a break to drink something. Coffee and Tea have become big favorites, along with wine and other alcohol.
Whereas variety is the spice of life, water is the eternal spring of youth. Water cleanses everything in your body. It is like taking a shower inward. Keep your water intake high and you will feel more truly refreshed.
I am the most guilty of this! Stan is stealing some of my water above, but I don’t drink that much of anything. I have to make a conscious effort to drink water. I think I’m getting better, but other than my 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and a little water & protein shake after the gym…I’m good.
Ok, time to get stricter about my water intake, Stan says.

I’ve been in my studio apartment for almost 2 1/2 years now, so at this point, it’s sort of home.
This is the smallest space I’ve ever lived in and it’s hard to make it feel bigger than it really is (I may be slightly guilty of a little bit of hoarding), but I also strive to make the most of my space.
In 2011, I took a trip to Italy for work, my close friend and Stan-sitter, took the opportunity to revamp my apartment while I was traveling. I came home to the most amazing sight! I was literally speechless! He made some changes that I never would have thought of on my own. Since then, I’ve been slowly doing things to make my space even better.
I LOVE color! I did a little photo project (I’ll share more soon) to break up the dead space on the white walls, and as much as I love what I’ve created, there was still white EVERYWHERE! A few weeks ago, I finally decided it was time to add a pop of color! I spent weeks prior trying to decide on the perfect shade that I wouldn’t get tired of seeing, and voila!
I completely brightened up my space! I have a lot of black and dark colors - Stan and I shed like CRAZY, so darker colors are the most practical for me, but this change has literally brightened my world!
It’s the little things people! I can’t get enough of them! I have a few more little updates that I’m still working through but will share shortly!
What little touches make your home feel like home?
Take time out of your day to take time out of your day.
Sit quietly. Do nothing. Observe. Enjoy the scenery. Smooth your hair. Stretch your limbs. Look around and smell the air. Rub your body parts where they feel sore from working or playing. Lean back and breathe in with long deep breaths. Exhale with little sounds of relief.
You will be amazed how little it takes to restore yourself with a personal timeout.
So you may have noticed there was no Sunday’s With Stan last week. As Stan and I were pondering over this advice…we got so relaxed we ended up taking a LONG nap.
However, I really think this is something to think about. We are living in an information era constantly moving and buzzing and thinking about the next thing, the last thing, or anything! We all need to remind ourselves to step back and take a minute to rest and be truly present.
I sort of touched on this topic a few weeks ago (you can read more here.) but it can be so hard to disconnect from the constant movement and take in your current surroundings. This is something I’m trying to make a best practice and do for a period of time instead of just for a quick moment.
This past week, we had our Summer Party at work. I went into the event thinking that this is a topic that I should definitely cover, but I already had a feeling my etiquette books & I wouldn’t be completely on the same page.
I am SO fortunate to work with an AWESOME group of people at Smashbox Cosmetics.
*it was a nautical theme yacht party (hence the stripe overload).
We used to be a smaller company but were purchased by “corporate america” two years ago. A lot of the people on our team have been with the company for years and we are overall a like little family. Plus, we all genuinely like each other for the most part, so we probably come with a little bit more laid back attitude than other companies might.
The best part about an office party is getting a chance to hang out and have fun with people you are around every day and may not get a chance to work with or see day to day. Catching up on personal lives, singing, dancing, drinking, laughing, just having an all around good time. I think almost everyone comes back to work feeling nostalgic about the fun had and it’s also an opportunity to get closer to people you don’t always interact with and even build new friendships.
So what could go wrong with all of those positive possibilities? I know you’re thinking it… and it’s really the BIGGEST no-no of any company event:
Don’t over indulge in the alcohol and act a fool. Period. The End.
I know that it can be easy to get wrapped up in the moment when you are having such a good time and leaving the office stresses behind, but this is one rule EVERYONE needs to abide by. The last thing you need is to be a complete disaster and embarrass yourself completely. These things find a way of never being forgotten.
If you are new to a company and aren’t sure what the situation is like, just ask a co-worker who’s attended a similar event and get the low down on what to expect, what to wear, and if there are any well known things to avoid.
I think we all know better than this…but it needed to be said…just in case.
One other thing, that I struggle with myself, is remembering that you are still with your co-workers and not to have a gossip fest (especially about anyone or anything relating to work).
Ok Ok…I know what you’re thinking…it’s not polite to gossip anyway, so this shouldn’t even be worth mentioning…but hey, we are all a work in progress here.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are talking about office gossip or other co-workers, it’s probably best to walk away, keep quiet, or politely say that you don’t feel comfortable discussing that here.
Can I reiterate that I can be guilty of this myself, so don’t feel bad, we all do it! I also know there’s nothing like connecting with someone over something you both can understand and maybe equally feel, but these types of convos are better left in a private setting - or not at all. The hills have eyes people!! You never know who could be overhearing what’s being said or any of the other possible disastrous outcomes that could occur.
The Wrap Up? Don’t get drunk. Don’t office gossip.
We can do this and I PROMISE it’s for the best anyway!
One last fun share: We had a mandatory BINGO game that was for some awesome prizes, but this was no ordinary bingo! We played musical bingo! Our beloved DJ would play a portion of a song, and you had to know the song and identify it on your board to mark the spot! (Everyone was on board and several sing-a-long’s occurred.
I captured my board shortly after we decided to play for blackout…but can I say is what a BLAST I had playing this way!
Hope you feel a little better prepared for your next office party, but I’m sure you smarties already have it under control! ;)
Here is a mid-month update via my favorite photo app (Instagram!)
@kristipolitely - if you aren’t already following!
It has been SWELTERING hot in LA these past couple weeks, and Stan is a BIG fan of the Pomegranate All Naturals Popsicles! He’s sharing one with me in the first photo.
I was lucky enough to attend the Roast of Rosanne Barr on August 4th, it aired last Sunday on Comedy Central, shockingly (to me) Gilbert Gottfried was my favorite. He was HILARIOUS! We smuggled out a wine bottle (that I later broke telling an animated story). :/
Dipping my toes in the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel, it was fun to go out and spend the day by the pool.
Another snapshot of our summer party on the yacht!
Lots of trips to Yogurtland lately, I am ADDICTED to their pistachio foryo!
I visited the Melrose Trading Post with my friend Kerri, and picked up some accents for my jewelry display!
Not a bad first half of the month! I have a few more great things planned for the second half as well!
You never have to wait for anyone, or anything, if you learn to find pleasure in the moment at hand.
Have you ever got really peeved because someone was late? You may never be bothered by that again if you are completely present to the amazing world in front of you. Come to every event or moment as if it could be your last and you will see that there is always plenty of stimulation right then and there.
OK, so I know this is a little contradictory to my “tick tock” post, but I there is some truth the the statement above. I think the last few weeks I’ve noticed it the most, but I am just LOVING life, so when we were stuck in traffic for about 6 of our 8 1/2 hr trip home from Vegas last weekend, that I didn’t feel like the world was ending. I was texting friends, enjoying the scenery, and trying to make the most out of the situation that would normally put me over the edge!
So what I’m saying is, if you are really enjoying your life, people being late or things taking longer than suspected, it won’t be so completely frustrating, however, it’s still frowned upon to be late…

Some of you may be wondering how I got here or why I got here…
Instead of learning some ladylike lessons this week, I’m going to share some cool people that helped me get here and that I just love.
I was feeling the need for new inspiration in my life. I decided that I should try and get inspiration somewhere new. I’ve mentioned my being described as a very passionate person, and there’s nothing greater than hearing what other people are passionate about. If they get as crazy as me whether I like it or not, I’m hooked in!
So I figured, what better way to get inspired than by other people? I needed some blogs in my life (since talking to strangers in LA can be a little dangerous :/ )…and that’s where I stumbled upon…
I fell in love with this blog from the moment I stumbled upon it. Originally spearheaded by Elsie (Emma had a separate blog, which I also just loved), this blog is crafty, vintagey, foody, inspirational goodness!
Discovering this space, made me REALLY want to create something of my own, but with a bazillion blogs out there, I was so worried about how I could make a space that’s my own. I had a brief endevour that just didn’t feel like “me” and I really challenged myself to create something that was true to myself and also unique.
Along with their beautifully photographed, interesting, inspiring posts, they offer some GREAT e-courses that you can always re-reference. I did the one on blogging, not only did I feel even closer to Elsie after the course, but it was SO helpful…click here for the direct link to take the course yourself.
There are SO many things I can say about Miss B, first, she lives in London/Cambridge (need I say more?) so she is constantly whisking me across the pond to my dreamland. She’s just so fabulous, she had amazing style, posts the best pictures, and has a super cool official type job on top of it! I feel like we could be friends…while I obsess over her awesome wardrobe…it’s a light hearted lovely little blog that does nothing but brighten my day.
Well, I guess I should preface this by first saying that I actually know this awesome lady! We used to work together (and have car siblings and get told we look like siblings) before she left me to go live it up on the east coast. She’s always had a special place in my heart because she was the first person who REALLY made me feel welcome when I started working at my current company. On top of it, she’s funny, pretty, sweet, smart, and a BEYOND excellent writer. So I may be a touch bias, but I won’t feel bad about it. Check out her blog and you’ll see for yourself. She definitely inspires me to be a better writer, own my style, and now I have second thoughts about sharing my fragrance with anyone or telling anyone what it is…unless they want to purchase it for me…but even then I may ask for a giftcard instead (see why here).
So basically, what I’m saying is, if I was being sent to a deserted island, and I had to bring 3 bloggers with me…^ Ta-Daaaa! (well technically it would be 4, but I’m counting Emma & Elsie as 1).
Lastly, while I was in Vegas last weekend, I took the opportunity to get super dressed up and glammy (more so than I’ve been trying to do on a daily basis)…and while I was getting dressed I had a thought “I wonder if Briony & Jenna would approve?”…in my head I heard “yes” and I hope they would really agree. We went to the Artisan hotel, hidden gem I say! They had a TON of statues, artwork, amazing photo-opness (which I MORE than took advantage of) so here’s a picture of me at the entrance (but from the end of the night).
(not only do I love my outfit, but this photo captures a truly happy smile, not a “smile for the camera” smile…I think those moments can sometimes be few and far between so I like these moments captured. I love it!)
